April 8

Barefoot suspect

4:28 p.m. — 1400 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Petit Theft. The suspect walked into the store with no shoes. She selected a pair of shoes, put them on and walked out the door. She was stopped by security.

The suspect said she had planned to buy shoes, but saw the Jellypop brand shoes and decided to steal them. The value was $45.

 

April 9

A little bit short

10:21 a.m. — 300 Block of Ocean Shore Boulevard  

Burglary. The victim said when she arrived at the church in the morning, she saw a smashed cement block outside the side doors.

Security footage showed a young male and female approaching the garage of the church. The male pulled on the door but it was locked.

The video then shows the couple approaching the church side doors with a large cement block. The male threw the block at the window but it fell short and smashed on the ground.

The male tries another door, but it’s locked. At that time a motion-sensitive light came on and the couple walked away.

The male was wearing a black and white skull mask that covered his face. The female was wearing a hoodie with the hood up. No fingerprints were available.

 

April 11

Jolted by scam

3:19 p.m. — First Block of Tomoka Oaks Boulevard

Fraud. The employee at the golf course said someone called and said they were from Florida Power and Light. The suspect said a power bill had not been paid, and if $1,000 was not sent, the power would be shut off.

The FPL bill had been paid, so the victim believed it was a scam. The caller had left a call-back number and a control number. The police officer checked the number on the Internet and saw entries advising that it was a scam.

 

April 11

Another jolt

6:21 p.m. — 300 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Fraud. The restaurant owner said one of his employees received a call from someone claiming to be from FPL in regard to a past-due balance of $807.23. The suspect threatened to shut off power.

The victim was instructed to load money onto a “Reloadit” payment card and call them back. The victim placed money on two cards, for $500 and $307.23, and called the suspect back. The suspect confirmed the numbers and then ended the calls.

 

April 13

The old hot dog ruse

6:07 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Burglary. The convenience store clerk said the suspect wandered around the store for about 15 minutes. He said he was waiting for his girlfriend to see what kind of hotdog she wanted.

The suspect then started making two hotdogs, and the clerk left the counter to go make coffee. She then noticed the suspect walking to the door with a box filled with cartons of cigarettes. She followed him out the door, but he ran around the corner.

A witness who was on the sidewalk told the officer he saw the suspect get into a white SUV.

The security video showed the suspect enter the counter area when the clerk walked away and enter the office through an open door. He left with a box of 30 cigarette cartons valued at $1,857.

A be-on-the-lookout was issued for the vehicle.
