An All-American
Matanzas senior lacrosse player Gunner Parson was recently named an All-American with six others North Florida named an All-American.
“It feels amazing,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teams and coaches.”
Parson led the Pirates in scoring each of the past four years, totaling 30 goals and 29 assists this year. He led Matanzas to back-to-back district championships, the only two in the program’s history.
Parson also recently signed with the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina.
Parson’s teammate, senior Jake Cohill, will be joining him at Mount Olive. Cohill scored a total of 83 goals and 55 assists over his four-year career at Matanzas.
Once a Dawg, always a Dawg
Flagler Palm Coast alum Lee Ann Spivey, a current South Florida Bull, was selected as the 33rd draft pick by the Houston Scrap Yard
Dawgs in the National Pro Fastpitch League.
Spivey recorded her 37th homerun on Monday, breaking the Bulls all-time record with three games remaining in the season.
During her four years with FPC, she was selected to the 8A All-State team, batted .525 for her career, led the Five-Star Conference in homers three of her four years, and was awarded many other honors.
Pirates’ most decorated football player?
Senior Andre Bodison leaves Matanzas as “arguably the most decorated football player to have played for the Black and Blue,” according to head coach Robert Ripley. Bodison signed his letter of intent to forward his career and education New Mexico Military Institute.
Bodison is a three-year varsity starter who leads Matanzas in career receptions (113), yards receiving (1,474) and is third in touchdowns (14). He participated in the 2015 FACA, Central Florida and Florida-Georgia All Star games, and he was selected to the USA Football National Select Team.
Bodison was also selected to the FACA All-District Team twice, also a two-time selection for First-Team All-Area Volusia-Flagler. He was also selected as the 2015 FACA 6A District-6 Player of the Year.

John Quinn recently caught a 9-pound 10-ounce Black Drum on Saturday, April 9, the on the fishing dock of Surf Side Estates in Flagler Beach, and Zayne Smith caught a 2.5-pound Largemouth Bass in Rymfire Park.
