The Casements held the 44th-annual Art in the Park.
Hal Somervill strummed on a guitar made from a curtain rod, cigar box, deer skull and whitetail deer jaw bone at the 44th-annual Art in the Park at The Casements on April 30. The City of Ormond Beach’s Leisure Services held the event with the help of their partner Ormond Memorial Art Museum. The Museum ensures that every vendor makes their own crafts, and provides judges and ribbons for prizes. Somervill says he found himself watching YouTube after retiring and stumbled across a video of a guitar made out of a cigar box, this sparked his interest and he started the hobby.
In The Casements Gallery Room the Sunrise Community Girl Scouts filled the rooms with examples of photography, painting, drawing and textile art. Back outside, plates and vases made glass garden flowers. Retired firefighter Lori Becker creates her unique pieces by going to thrift stores and flea markets to find her pieces. Her design process can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a week, depending on the pieces she finds. People gathered in amazement at her flowers, wanting to know the engineering behind it.
Artists from Ormond Beach and out of state alike attended this year’s Art in the Park. Every artist was one of a kind. This year’s Art in the Park drew in over 4,000 people, over the two-day span. Art in the Park is always planned a week before Mother’s Day, and next year’s event will be May 6 and 7.
