Those who rose early enough on Saturday, April 30, may have caught a glimpse of 92 people hurrying down their street, taking part in the second annual HUM Run/Walk 5K by Providence Church, 1151 W. Granada Blvd.
The participants wound through parts of the Hidden Hills and Trails North 40 neighborhoods.
The top four finishers were all from Ormond Beach: August DeBerri, 17; Josh Tomlinson, 34; Neil Nipper, 44; and Shane Fitzgerald, 16.
Money raised goes to Halifax Urban Ministries, and last year, the funds totaled $4,600.
The church takes part in Feed a Family program, handing out groceries from HUM for families that qualify. The food is packaged at the HUM headquarters in Daytona Beach and delivered to Providence Church and other locations for distribution.
Pastor Timothy Mann, who is chairman of the board of directors for HUM, points out that the goal of HUM is to prevent homelessness.
“They don’t have to spend grocery money on rent,” he said.
He said donations to HUM are always needed.
Also, once a month, a team of volunteers from the church help feed the homeless at the Bridge of Hope hot meal program in the Family Shelter on North Street in Daytona Beach.

Providence Church, which began in Daytona Beach eight years ago, moved to the present location two years ago. There are now 340 active members.
