A 9-year-old boy was playing Pokemon Go in Ralph Carter Park with his 11-year-old brother July 26 when an older boy attacked the 9-year-old and stole his sneakers, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The two brothers had been playing in the park at about 5:40 p.m. The 9-year-old was walking down the sidewalk when “he was approached from behind and slammed down on the sidewalk for no apparent reason by a boy who was riding a bicycle,” according to the news release.

Once the 9-year-old was on the ground, the older boy took the 9-year-old’s Under Armour-brand sneakers off his feet and bicycled away.

Deputies found the suspect, a 13-year-old, near the park. The 9-year-old and the 11-year-old identified the 13-year-old as the sneaker robber, and deputies took him into custody and turned him over to the Department of Juvenile Justice. They gave the shoes back to the 9-year-old.

The 9-year-old boy had “minor injuries” from the robbery, according to the news release.
