Residents escape house fire

Damages are estimated at $40,000.

Ormond Beach Fire Department units were dispatched at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 16 to a residential structure fire at 267 Midway Ave. with a report of flames coming from the windows.  Crews arrived with flames showing from the front area of the home and a vehicle parked next to the home on fire.

The three occupants who were at the home, one adult and two children, were able to get out of the home safely on their own, according to a city spokeswoman. A family of six is being assisted by the Red Cross.

The house is located west of U.S. 1 and south of West Granada Boulevard.

The fire was quickly extinguished and appears to be unintentional.There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal and damages are estimated to be approximately $40,000.

Ormond Beach Fire Department was assisted by Volusia County.
