Aug. 17

Sorry if I scratched you car ... not

12:51 p.m. — 700 Block of South Atlantic Avenue 

Vandalism. The victim said he believed his pickup truck was keyed while he was having dinner at a restaurant.

Surveillance video showed a male and female exit a car that was parked next to the victim’s pickup truck and then enter the restaurant. Later, they exited the restaurant and went back to their car. Mid-way from backing out of the parking spot, the vehicle stopped. The video then showed the male suspect get out of the car and stand between the victim’s truck and his car for “an usual amount of time.” The victims then left the lot.

A still-shot was made of the suspect from the video.

 

Aug. 18

Shop and save

10:30 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard 

Petit Theft. The officer saw the suspect going around to people in a parking lot and asking them if they wanted to buy laundry detergent or beer. He saw one container of detergent being sold.

The suspect left in a car but the officer made a traffic stop. In a post-Miranda interview, the suspect admitted to stealing the items at a different store by loading them into a cart and pushing it out the door. He said he was struggling financially and needed the money.

The two bottles of detergent and two 24-packs of beer cost a total of $107.82.

 

Aug. 18

It’s a habit

10 a.m. — 700 Block of South Nova Road. 

Possession of Paraphernalia, Driving with Suspended License. The officer observed a car with a cracked windshield having difficulty maintaining its lane and almost hitting another vehicle.

After being stopped, the driver said her license was suspended. She said she had just got out of court for the last time she got in trouble for having a suspended license.

The officer found out through a computer check that she had been cited five times for driving with a suspended license. Asked why she continued to drive with a suspended license, she said she didn’t know but was simply trying to get to work.

The suspect was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Aug. 19

To your health

5:54 p.m. — 1400 Block of West Granada Boulevard. 

Shoplifting. The grocery store owner said the suspect stole $614.44 worth of products from the store.

Surveillance video showed the suspect select a 13-gallon trash can off the shelf. He then went to the Health and Beauty department and placed items in the trash can.

When contacted by an employee, he ran out of the store with the trash can and drove off.

Items taken included 10 packages of eye drops, three packages of eye vitamin supplements, two packages of an ulcer medication, 10 packages of a digestion aid, five packages of allergy medicine, two packages of probiotics and a trash can.

 

Aug. 24

Signs of the times

8:49 a.m. — Andy Romano Park. 

Theft. The city employee reported that five identification signs were missing from the park at a value of $500. The signs are 6 by 8 inches.

They were missing from the electrical room, janitorial room and restrooms. In taking the signs, the suspect caused $1,200 in damage
