Mainland wins two early district games
The Lady Buccaneers opened their season with a three-set win over rival Deltona 26-24, 25-19, 25-16 on Aug. 23. They returned to action two days later and outlasted Atlantic in a five-set thriller 25-18, 27-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-4. Kamari Potter led all players with 21 kills, and Morgan Mundell added 10 kills. Abby Rich led the Bucs with 19 assists.
Mainland will next play at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Pine Ridge.
Lady Green Wave volleyball off to good start
Father Lopez Catholic kicked off its season with a win over – now district foe – Seabreeze 30-28, 25-16, 25-15 on Aug. 23. The Green Wave fell to New Smyrna Beach a few days later but returned to the won column against Warner Christian with a 26-24, 25-21, 25-17 victory.
Tayln Allard led Lopez with nine kills and five aces, and Tiera White had seven kills. Lopez will return to action against Pierson at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Pierson.
Seabreeze football falls to Spruce Creek
The Sandcrabs couldn’t get it going against rival Spruce Creek, falling 32-7 on Friday, Aug. 26, in Daytona.
Dylan Cary provided Seabreeze its only shining moment, when he intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.
Father Lopez football gets blown out
Father Lopez lost to the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers 52-12.
The Green Wave committed a number of turnovers, which kept them out of the end zone, except once when Cade Green scored on a run.
Seniors, interested in softball?
The Greater Daytona Beach Senior Softball Association invites all seniors 60 and up to participate in the league. Anyone interested in playing is welcome to participate in batting practice and ask questions and or sign up. The league is open to all skill levels.
The seasonal games begin Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Strickland Field off of Clyde Morris Ave.
