Very petit theft
10 a.m. — 1400 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Petit Theft. The suspect left a cart with merchandise in an aisle and walked out of a store after putting a couple of items in his pocket. He was stopped outside the store, and he had a portable, peppermint flavored mini-toothbrush and a pair of tweezers with a total value of $4.68.
Nov. 21
Suspect sends victim money
2:08 p.m. — 100 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Information. The victim said she met the suspect through a dating website a couple of months ago. She said the suspect said he was in the United Kingdom but wanted to come to the United States some day and “become a family” with her.
While communicating with him, she said he wired a total of $7,800 to her bank. He then asked her to wire the funds to a different account in Texas. He claimed to be a contractor and was being paid for a building project.
After talking to friends and family, she became nervous and thought the activity could be related to money laundering. She closed her account and gave no further information to the suspect.
Investigation showed negative comments about the dating website, with complaints about people using fake profiles and allegations of scams.
The victim had not lost any funds, but had given the suspect her driver’s license number and bank account number. She was given information on identity theft.
Suspect of few words
8:27 p.m. — 300 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Possession of Canabis. A car was pulled over because of an inoperable tail light. A search was conducted after the officer smelled burnt cannabis. A bag of cannabis was found in the jacket pocket of one of the three people in the car and a green leafy substance was found on the floorboard.
The suspect was read her Miranda rights, which say she has the right to remain silent. She said, “What’s to talk about, you found my weed.”
Nov. 23
Boots are made for walking
9:47 a.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Petit Theft and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia. The suspect took off his boots, put on new ones from the store and walked out the door. After being stopped outside, he also admitted to stealing two bottles of Sprite. A pipe with crack cocaine was found in his pocket.
Cashier scam
10:43 a.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Grand Theft. The store manager said a customer complained that the suspect, a cashier, rang up a prepaid gift card on her receipt for $68.44. The manager then became suspicious, so he checked surveillance video.
The video showed that the suspect had multiple gift cards stashed by the register. When a customer was not looking, she would swipe the gift card so that the customer would unknowingly pay for it. The victims were all elderly females. Only three of 16 victims noticed the discrepancy, and they were refunded. The total stolen was $1,527.24.
The suspect admitted to the crimes and was arrested.
Nov. 28
Just hanging out
11 a.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard
Petit Theft. The suspect was seen placing items in a plastic tote as he walked around the store, including clothing and a BB gun. After being stopped, an officer also found he was wearing a pair of dress pants under his own pants. The dress pants still had the tags.
Asked why he came into the store that day, he said to “hang out.” He was arrested for shoplifting. He was on probation for grand theft.
