The 1 Million Cups program stretches across the United States from 83 communities, to a million business owners and entrepreneurs.
“The ‘1 Million Cups’ idea stems from the notion that at 9 a.m. on a Wednesday morning, over a million entrepreneurs and business owners are gathered across the country networking, and presenting their ideas over cups of coffee,” said Melissa Chipps, CEO of WingWoman4hire, and organizer of Flagler County’s 1 Million Cups.
Developed by the Kauffman Foundation, the free program is designed to educate, engage and connect entrepreneurs.
The Flagler County branch launched on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Fair Trade Café in Palm Coast. The group is set to meet at 9 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the café. Each meeting will feature two up-and-coming entrepreneurs.
To kick-off the first Flagler County 1 Million Cups meeting, entrepreneurs, Travis Peres, of Palm Bay, and Alex Miller, of Orlando, were each given the opportunity to present their business ideas to an audience comprised of peers, mentors, educators and advisors.
After the entrepreneur’s six-minute presentation, the audience was given an opportunity to remark on the product or service idea, and inquire about various aspects of the company.
“1 Million Cups provides entrepreneurs with the resources they need to get a small business started.” Melissa Chipps, organizer of Flagler County’s 1 Million Cups
“This gives me the opportunity to meet those in the same industry, learn from their mishaps, and receive guidance for my own business,” said Travis Peres, CEO of Quix products, a quick mix formula bottle company.
Both entrepreneurs where greeted with an enthusiastic response from the audience after presenting their ideas.
“I have found this program to be one of the best ways to progress with my business,” said Alex Miller, CEO of Alex Miller Organics (AMO.) Miller has presented his company, an all-natural men’s grooming line, at three separate 1 Million Cups meetings. “The meetings offer a good platform to become acquainted with like-minded people, and to receive positive feedback.”
