Flagler Schools have “Flagship Programs,” but many may wonder what these programs are, and how they relate to the community.

These questions will be answered at the Flagship Showcase from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Buddy Taylor Middle/Wadsworth Elementary school cafeteria, 4500 Belle Terre Parkway.

Each county school will have an interactive display booth. Everyone is invited to come and learn about the programs. and how they are changing the face of learning on Flagler school campuses.

There are many learning options available for Flagler students, and this is the event to explore them all in one place.

The event also includes a bicycle rodeo conducted by the Flagler County Sheriff's Police Athletic League. Bikes will be provided, or you can bring your own.

The event is free. For more information, call Jason Wheeler, Flagler Schools community information specialist at 437-7526, ext. 2110.

Matanzas Coffee hits the spot and wind 4th SPB Gold level certification

News release provided by Isabella Dennany, DECA reporter

Congratulations to the Coffee Spot for winning their 4th SBE Gold Level Certification. The Gold Level Certification is only given to 50 schools across the nation.

Now, the Matanzas High School DECA chapter is eligible to bring up to three students to the SBE Academy at the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in April.

Participants will experience professional development sessions, network and collaborate with other SBEs from around the nation, and be recognized for their achievement.

The Coffee Spot is the place at Matanzas High School, where students can come during the first two periods of the day, to get snacks and drinks. The Coffee Spot has been known for their wonderful cookies and drink selections among other things.

Overseeing the whole project is Barbara Tant, who also teaches the Marketing classes and heads the DECA clubs. The Coffee Spot is a student run and student planning business where classmates who take Tant’s marketing class can learn how to work in a real business situation.
