“It is great to see them have fun, be themselves and let loose.” Jenne Sandblom, special needs caregiver
Nova Road felt the spark of love Friday night at the annual Valentine’s Day Dance at the Nova Community Center. Couples let loose on the dance floor at the Special Population Area Recreational Council, or S.P.A.R.C., of Volusia County, dinner and dance.
S.P.A.R.C. of Volusia County is a non-profit run solely by volunteers that offers many recreational activities all throughout the year for intellectually and developmentally disabled people of all ages.
“S.P.A.R.C. is a great resource that provides opportunities for my son to experience fun activities while making friends,” said Connie Massey, volunteer and S.P.A.R.C. board of director. “A lot of the members and their families do not have much availability to plan their own activities, so this organization is a great outlet for them to get involved and stay
sociable.”
The program frequently organizes a variety of events throughout Volusia County. With the turn of each new season, the members partake in different sports activities such as soccer, softball, basketball, shuffle board and an exercise program.
The organization is already planning its next dance party for March 18 for St. Paddy’s Day, at the Samsula Lodge, in Samsula, Florida.
