Littleton enters Commission race

Local business owner Robert Littleton has filed to become a candidate for the Ormond Beach City Commission, Zone 4. Littleton graduated from Daytona State College with a degree in accounting technology and now is a certified tax preparer. He also operates Go Ormond, a tutoring agency.

His priorities are to keep property taxes low, responsibly manage the city’s budget and preserve “the great quality of life” in the city, according to a press release.

“I feel that my background in business gives me a unique understanding of our city’s needs and responsibilities,” Littleton said. “I hope to use my skills and experiences to bring a fresh perspective to the City Commission.”

He is active in church and civic groups.

Attorney seeks House seat

Thomas J. “Tom” Leek, an attorney in Volusia County, announced recently that he is a candidate for the open District 25 seat in the Florida House of Representatives. Leek, 47, of Ormond Beach, is a lifelong Republican and seeks the seat currently held by Rep. Fred Costello. The district includes parts of Ormond Beach.

“As a local businessman, attorney, former House staff member and most importantly, as a father and husband, I enter this race to make certain our community gets the best possible, tried-and-true conservative representation in the Florida House of Representatives,” he said in a press release.

Leek is the managing partner and a commercial civil litigator at the Cobb-Cole Law Firm in Daytona Beach. He is a graduate of Seabreeze High School, The University of Central Florida and Stetson University College of Law. He was chairman of the Daytona Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2011 and is a former Legislative Aide (1992-94).

One dead in RV crash

An RV crashed Feb. 15 in the 1600 block of North U.S. 1. Upon arrival, Ormond Beach police found the recreational vehicle on fire. People nearby were able to rescue a male from the vehicle who suffered serious burns and was transported to Halifax Health, according to a police spokesman.

Another occupant could not be rescued because of the fire and died, according to police.

The RV had reportedly exited Interstate I-95 and continued straight toward the Dairy Queen parking lot where it struck a tree and exploded into flames.

Police did not release identities by press time and the crash is under investigation.
