After the Sandcrabs (2-1) allowed two early runs in the first inning, they responded with 15 unanswered runs to close out the Matanzas Pirates 15-2 on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

“After the first inning, down 4-nothing, our kids responded by putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the first; that was clutch,” coach Anthony Campanella said. “(Pitcher) Ryan Miranda settled down for us, and we put the bat on the ball. We probably played as well as we could play, defensively and offensively. It was definitely a total team effort.”

Pitcher Noah Jensen allowed no hits in the final inning of the game.

Seabreeze used a four-run first inning and an eight-run fourth to put the game out of reach. On top of giving up eight runs, Matanzas’s biggest issue was pitching; they walked 15 Seabreeze batters.

The Sandcrabs and Pirates will have a rematch at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Matanzas.
