Underclassmen pitchers Abagaile Killian and Madison Bodin were reluctant to give up a hit through the first couple innings, but Mainland eventually broke through to win 3-0 over the Matanzas Lady Pirates Thursday, Feb. 18, at Mainland.
Only allowing three hits, Killian retired 17 batters for a new career high, and on offense, she recorded a fourth-inning triple to send a runner home. The Bucs added two more in the sixth, when Kaitlin Henderson's single got things going, scoring Dani Keister.
For the Pirates, Bodin allowed three earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out three, and Cassandra Veilleux went 2-for-3. Samantha Olsen went 1-for-3.
