“It’s hard, but the kids had a good time; they wrestled well. Hopefully, we can get the regional title next weekend; that’s better than the district title.”
TOM BARTOLOTTA, FPC head wrestling coach
No one wants to lose, much less by margins such as half of a point. Flagler Palm Coast placed second in its district meet, falling short with 242.5, just shy of Fleming Island’s 243 on Saturday, Feb. 20, at FPC.
“It’s hard, but the kids had a good time; they wrestled well,” coach Tom Bartolotta said. Hopefully, we can get the regional title next weekend; that’s better than the district title. We got 14 wrestlers wrestling next weekend. Winter Springs has 11, and Fleming Island has 11. We’re at home, and I think we’re gonna do some good things next week.”
Although they didn’t win it as a team, the Bulldogs had four wrestlers win their individual district champions, while several others placed. Winners were Mike DeAugustino, Kaz Maia, Eric Vigo (formerly Russo) and Evyn Insalaco. Maia still remains undefeated at 48-0.
