Thanks to a donation from the late Peg and Bill Roberts, who had retired to Ormond Beach in 1987, the Ormond Beach Library now has the largest collection of large-print books in Volusia County, according to Pat Kuehn, community information specialist.
The Roberts spent many hours at the library after moving from Rockville, Maryland. When Bill Roberts developed a vision problem, he learned to appreciate large-print books, and the couple
decided to leave a bequest to the Friends of the Ormond Beach Library to help purchase additional large-print books and audiobooks, Kuehn said.
The Friends group recently celebrated the opening of a dedicated large-print section in the Ormond Beach Library, 30 S. Beach St., and presented a plaque to the Roberts’ daughter, Gana Dunlop.
The collection has been placed in the northeast corner of the library where large windows allow extra light. The Friends group purchased comfortable furniture and new shelving.
