THURSDAY, JAN. 14

Halifax Genealogical Society Annual Program

1:30 p.m. at the Ormond Beach Library Auditorium. In memory of Lani LaMee, a former president who passed away in office. George G. Morgan, an internationally acclaimed and respected genealogist, will present “Locating Records of English Ancestors.” It will be presented in two sessions. FRIDAY, JAN. 15

Arbor Day

10 a.m., at Central Park, 601 Hammock Lane. A live oak tree, donated by Yellowstone Landscape (formerly Austin Outdoor), will be planted in celebration. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Sonja Johnson, community events coordinator, at 676-3241. RSVPs are not required, but are greatly appreciated.

Open Gym

6 to 8 p.m. at the Ormond Beach Gymnastics Center, 432 N. Nova Road. Whether you are a beginner or have gymnastics experience, you can come by and practice old skills or brush up on new skills. Open to anyone between the ages of 8-21. Only be light spotting. Coaches will be on the floor at all times. A waiver to participate must be signed by each person and anyone under 18 years of age must have the waiver signed by a parent. The cost is $5 per participant. Participants may register at the Leisure Services Registration Office or online. Registrations will also be accepted at the door. Call 676-3250.

Richard Nader’s Doo Wop and Rock ‘n’ Roll

7:30 p.m. at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center. Featuring Sunny Turner, Tommy Mara and The Crests. Cost is $50 for VIP with a meet and greet, and $35 for reserved. Call 676-3375.

Folk Concert

7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 56 N. Halifax Dr. . David Roth is a inspirational singer/songwriter. Dan Gribbin will be the opening act. Tickets are $10. Call 956-1813.

SATURDAY, JAN. 16

Lecture & a Latte: Feng Shui

8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Java Jungle, 2450 S Ridgewood Ave, South Daytona. Presented by Blessings with Wings, LLC in partnership with Java Jungle. Enjoy discovering the power of colors, furniture, plants, windows/doors, lights, mirrors, and more influence the energy in every area of your life. Make and take a feng shui cure. Cost is $11 and includes a cup coffee or tea.  

Back in the Day Lecture Series and Book Signing

9:30 a.m. Anderson-Price Memorial Building, 42 N. Beach St. Mark Lane’s “Legendary Locals of Daytona Beach.” Sponsored by the Ormond Beach Historical Society. Admission free. Call 677-7005.

Seaside Herb Society

9:30 a.m. at the Bailey Riverbridge Meeting House, 1 N. Beach St. The program will be in conjunction with the Mayor’s Challenge. Guest speaker, Teressa Terry, clinical nutrition manager at Florida Hospital will speak on “Understanding Gluten-Free and Nutrition.” The “herb-of-the-month” is capsicum (chipotle). Hospice 101: Prospective Volunteer Orientation

10 a.m. at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, café annex, 301 Memorial Medical Parkway, Daytona Beach. This event will provide an overview of hospice services, volunteer opportunities, the application process and training requirements. Florida Hospital HospiceCare is a faith-based, nonprofit organization and is the only Joint Commission accredited hospice agency in Volusia and Flagler counties. Florida Hospital HospiceCare is in need of additional volunteers to assist at inpatient units and to help with administrative office tasks. Obedient and well-mannered pets are also sought to visit with patients and families. Prospective volunteers must pass a background clearance, provide proof of health in good standing, and have a comfort level in working with terminally ill patients and their families. Brotherhood Breakfast

10 a.m. at Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road. Deli Man is a documentary film produced and directed by Erik Greenberg Anjou. The story of the American deli is the story of Jews – their immigration, migration, upward mobility, and western assimilation. All men and women of the community are cordially invited. Italian American Club of Ormond Beach Meeting
