Flagler County residents Dalton Edwards and Alexander Koufodontis were injured in a crash in rural western St. Johns County Saturday evening that killed two young women, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Edwards, 20 and a Bunnell resident, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Palatka Boulevard at about 8:40 p.m. Jan. 9 when he ran the stop sign at the intersection with Isaacson Avenue and struck a Chevy TrailBlazer driven by Tennessee resident Victoria Sutton, 20, according to the release. The crash forced the TrailBlazer into a ditch on Isaacson Avenue, and the F-150 spun clockwise and landed in a ditch on Palatka Boulevard.

Rescuers took Sutton to Putnam Community Medical Center, but she later died of her injuries. One of Edwards' two passengers, 19-year-old St. Augustine resident Katherine Stecker, died at the scene of the crash.

Edwards had critical injuries and was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, and Koufodontis, the second passenger in the pickup and a 21-year-old Palm Coast resident, had minor injuries and was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending, according to the FHP news release.
