Bridge on High Bridge Road to reopen

The bridge has been closed since Jan. 9

L.B. Knox Bridge, the drawbridge on High Bridge Road which crosses the Intracoastal Waterway, is expected to open by noon on Jan. 13, according to a statement from Volusia County. 

It had been closed since Jan. 9 after a power surge damaged equipment in the lifting mechanism.

The bridge remained in the up position to allow boats to pass through during the repairs.

It is not known what caused the power surge. The bridge was built in 1955 and handles 1,100 vehicles per day, according to a statement from Volusia County.
