"When I stood up here on Christmas Eve, I said that we would hold the largest yard sale Ormond Beach has ever seen," Meagan Scharmahorn addressed the congregation at Oasis Church Jan. 24. "And we may have just done that."

The church's Mega Community Yard Sale and Fundraiser welcomed hundreds of people to shop the over 3,000 items collected and donated by the over 50 volunteers in the last three weeks. However, the purpose of this mega sale wasn't just to break a record — all proceeds went to benefit the Clayton family, who recently lost their home and their father in a tragic house fire.

And their efforts did not go to waste. On The Move, the church's community service group, raised a total of $16,000 through the yard sale and online donations. Scharmahorn, who is the kids director for the church, said she was reminded of why they were doing this and that she is a part of a community of people who love other people.

"It was such an encouragement to me yesterday because Amy and her son Kevin Lee were here," she said. "They were here with an On The Move shirt on and serving. That's a testament to their heart and who they are."

Amy Clayton has found an overwhelming amount of community support from her job as an assistant at Realty Pros Assured in Ormond Beach. Realtors Bill Navarra and Caryn Baker started a Go Fund Me account for the Clayton family to help them get back on their feet. Between the online donations and an additional collection they started at the Realty Pros office, the community has raised over $10,000 to help the family rebuild their lives.

"Just one more thing," Scharmahorn said before she let the Claytons leave the stage. "There's a family that just moved to Ormond Beach, and they heard about it this. They had something they want to do. So here are keys to a car, a 2005 BMW."

A round of applause broke out among the church as Scharmahorn embraced the Clayton family one more time, nearly everyone in tears.

"You can drive it or sell it," Scharmahorn said, "but our prayers are that this helps you as you continue to lead your awesome lives."
