Students of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Palm Coast extended an invitation to their teachers to attend a special Sunday warship on Jan. 31. The church has dedicated the day to recognize Flagler County’s teachers and the service they provide to our community.
“As a parent myself, I join the other parents who send their kids off to school for many hours each day, always hoping that they will return safe and sound,” began Pastor Edwin Coffie. “In
many instances, we haven’t a clue what takes place during those hours. Today is a small reminder of what our community’s teachers are doing for our children.”
Coffie went on to recognize how teachers influence their students through encouragement and inspiration.
“You give our children the key to unlock the door of knowledge; to prepare them to be responsible and productive adults.” Said Coffie.
A standing applause resounded throughout the chapel, as Dr. Culver, principal of Belle Terre Elementary, rose to respond to Mt. Calvary’s gratitude.
“On behalf of myself, and the staff here today, I want to say thank you,” said Dr. Culver. “To my knowledge, this is the first time a church has taken the time to recognize us, and we appreciate

your acknowledgement. We love our students, and we love doing what we do.”
Fourth-grade student of Bunnell Elementary and Mt. Calvary Church member, Edwina Mezo, took the opportunity to publicly thank the teachers in attendance.
“Children are entrusted to teachers with the weighty task of preparing kids, like me, to be life-long learners, productive workers and responsible citizens,” said Edwina, who spoke clearly and confidently into the microphone, as all eyes fell on her. “So today, let’s post, tweet, snap and hash-tag that we appreciate teachers, and thank God for bringing a significant teacher into our lives to make a difference.”
