For all the kids who presented their dads with ties or gift cards to Lowe’s on Father’s Day, local golfer Emma Albrecht upped the ante by giving her dad, Eric, her caddie, the Florida State Women's Amateur Championship on said day, which was also her birthday.

“As a parent, it was very special to see and experience how poised, consistent, and confident she was through seven rounds of golf over four days,” Eric Albrecht said. “Emma works very hard on her mental and physical training, as well as her golf swing, and I was so happy for her. It is something she and I will always share and will never forget.”

Emma’s parents, Eric and Annie, both former college golfers, have watched the Father Lopez alumna, along with little sister Claire, who golfs for Mainland, go from teens who could only get

“It’s more of something I do for fun, and I love to compete on a team. I don’t necessarily want to turn it into a job, because that can take away some of the fun factors.”

close to winning to now beating their parents on a more consistent basis.

“Nowadays, it’s usually between my sister and me,” Emma laughed, “but, they’ll tell us that they like to just watch us compete and win more than they like to practice.”

While already an accomplished golfer with an exceptional handicap, Emma regards the sport as a comforting hobby rather than a potential professional career. Her desire to one day become a doctor plays a role in this, but there is something simple that matters more.

“I’ve always had fun playing golf,” she said. “It’s what keeps me motivated, especially with school being the most challenging thing in my life. I look forward to going out to practice; it’s like my free time now—my release from school.”

Albrecht usually takes time to rewind on the course for hours daily, and she is reaping the benefits of a love for the sport that she wants to play for a long time.

“I want to continue to enjoy the game into my old age,” she said.
