In April, the Flagler County Art League awarded scholarships to seniors Lillie Ogle, Matanzas High School, and Jailyn Van Horn, Flagler Palm Coast High School.
Both students attended the FCAL annual picnic at the end of the season.
Lillie plans to study illustration at the Savannah College of Art & Design, with the aim of becoming a character designer for a story games company.
Jailyn will study biology at the University of Florida, Gainesville, with the goal of becoming a plastic surgeon.
Both girls have excelled at art and have won several top awards at FCAL student art shows presented at the League’s gallery.
“I knew I wanted to do something with the human body, and the seven art classes I took helped me to decide on plastic surgery which suits my artistic talents,” Jailyn said.
Lillie, who originally was interested in music, was won over by art.
“I took all seven of Mr. (Ed) Beckett’s classes,” she said. “He was very inspiring.”
Lillie also was inspired by the recent "Art Works" program sponsored by FCAL at Flagler Palm Coast High School, which included a panel discussion featuring three FPC graduates who are successful in various art careers.
“It was great to hear how successful they were and the professions they were able to pursue in the arts," she said.
