Local Long finishes first in 5K fun run
Megan Long finished first in her division—16th overall—at the Cops and Joggers 5K fundraiser event Saturday, July, 16, hosted by the Ormond Beach Police Department.
The first 300 runners receive a flag football belt to wear during the race, and Ormond Police officers gather along the course and try to remove as many flags from runners as possible. After the race, runners with at least one remaining flag will receive an “I outran the Ormond Police Department” shirt, while those with no flags remaining will receive an “I got busted by the Ormond Beach Police Department” shirt.
Locals help win basketball championship
Matanzas high schoolers Greg Layne and Jessiah Solomon—who are also best friends—led their team, the Open Man Ballers 17U to the USSSA Fireworks on the Hardwood Tournament this past weekend in Clearwater.
Solomon was selected to the All-Tournament team, along with Layne, who also won the MVP honor.
Family catches big
Mother and son tandem, Patty and James Scott, both caught two largemouth bass in their frequent competitions. Because they released them back into the water, they didn’t check sizes, but Patty believes she won the competition.
Looking for a lacrosse camp?
The Palm Coast Sparrows will be joining with the Ponte Vedra High School coaching staff to host a Palm Coast Boys Lacrosse Camp for $99 from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday, August 4-5, at Wadsworth Park.
The camp is for kids ranging from kindergarten all the way up to rising seniors, and they will be assisted by PVHS players along with current and former Division I players and coaches.
Throughout the two days, coaches will implement a system that has helped separate PVHS from its competitors. They will be covering a variety of skills ranging from basic catching/throwing mechanics to high level dodging, defensive approach angles and more.
Participants will need to bring their own full equipment.
