Credit cards stolen but loss was small

Also: Solicitor tries to bypass ordinance.

July 10

Small spender

9:12 a.m. — 1600 Block of North U.S. 1 

Fraud. The victim lost his wallet and later was contacted by his credit card company that there had been a fraudulent use for $7.75. He later learned there were five transactions in the Ormond Beach area for $1, $17.28, $15, $7.75 and $47.67.

They cancelled all of the cards in the wallet and planned to return to their home in another state.

 

July 15

What solicitation sign?

12:56 p.m. — Intersection of West Granada Boulevard and Interstate 95 

Peddler and Solicitation Prohibition. The officer saw the suspect in the grassy area near a ramp for a long period of time. In the past, panhandlers and solicitors held up signs at the intersection but an ordinance was passed making it illegal.

The suspect was holding his hand out whenever a car approached. The officer asked to see his hand, and the suspect reluctantly showed it. His hand had “Help?” written on it with a thick marker.

He had been arrested several times for solicitation in that area and was arrested and taken to jail.

 

July 16

Looking for bargains

11:22 a.m. — 100 Block of Harvard Drive 

Stolen Vehicle. The victims parked in the street at a garage sale and left their vehicle running and unlocked. When they returned 15 minutes later, the vehicle was gone.

No one saw anything suspicious. The victims were given a ride home by an attendee of the garage sale.

 

July 18

Lumpy mattress

10:34 a.m. — 200 Block of South Atlantic Avenue 

Found Property. The motel manager that a previous guest turned in a found weapon, a 38-caliber handgun, which was loaded.

The guest said he discovered the gun under the mattress after his wife’s constant complaining of discomfort in bed.

The officer called the previous two guests who had stayed in the room. One called back and said the gun was not his, and the other had not called back.

 

Convenient for thief

11:41 p.m. — 100 Block of North Nova Road 

Stolen Vehicle. The victim said he parked his car in front of the convenience store and left it running and the doors unlocked. While he was inside the store, he saw a white car pull up beside his car. The next thing he noticed was both cars traveling down the road. He had several items in the car including an I-phone.

The officer checked the surveillance footage and noted that the white car matched the description of a car that had been reported stolen.

 

Pokemon find

7:41 p.m. — Cassen Park 

Found Property. The reporting party said he was playing Pokemon Go in the park near midnight and found a wallet on the ground. He searched for the owner but was unsuccessful so turned the wallet into the police. The ID had a Palm Coast address, so police contacted Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
