More than 200 people packed a room at the Hilton Garden Inn June 2 to hear all six Republican candidates for Flagler County sheriff address the public for the first time together in a forum held by the Flagler County Young Republican Club.
The six candidates were: John Lamb, a Jacksonville County Sheriff's Office lieutenant; Christopher Yates, a Holly Hill Police Department lieutenant; Don Fleming, former Flagler County sheriff; Mark Whisenant, a chief warrant officer with the U.S. Coast Guard; Gerard O’Gara, a former New York City prison warden; and Rick Staly, the former Flagler County undersheriff.
The forum June 2 was open only to Republican candidates. There are also two Democrats in the race — incumbent Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre and former Flagler County Sheriff's Office sergeant Larry Jones — and an independent, former New York City Police Department sergeant Thomas Dougherty.
Patrick Juliano, a former firefighter and a current regional manager for Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, moderated the forum. It was broadcast live on WNZF radio.
