Flagler County will have to seek another potential area for a destination dog park, because the Ocean Palm Golf Course is no longer the 2.94-acre overgrown-with-weeds forgotten land –it’s a course back in full swing.
After five years of laying destitute, Flagler Beach bought the property in 2013, hoping to transform it into a public destination. Not able to reach a consensus on a desired plan, the city has sold it to long-time Flagler County resident Duane McDaniel and his first cousin, Terry McManus, who make up Flagler Golf Management. The two, according to McManus, were awarded the course “after about a year and a whole bunch of city commission meetings” and celebrated its reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 4.
“All of these people came and bought condos here to retire on a golf course and by the water, but they only got 50% of the deal when they got here,” McManus said.
Still in development, Ocean Palm has already undergone much renovation, but it is currently open—at half price—for all who are interested in giving the greens a stroke or two.
“The clubhouse is in full swing, and, as each week passes, we’ll improve more on the golf course and the greens,” McManus added.
