Tomoka State Park's campground was evacuated June 6 after Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency for 34 counties including Volusia.
According to a press release from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service the evacuation of campgrounds and closure of several state parks across Central and North Florida are due to imminent weather conditions including strong winds and rain.
Tomoka State Park Ranger David Long said over 15 people were told to leave the campground, and the park staff will determine tomorrow if it should remained closed.
The park is currently still open for day use, weather permitting.
