A U.S. Navy airship spent the night at Flagler Executive Airport on Friday, June 10, according to a Flagler County news release. Aircraft like the one that stayed the night Friday aren't common on most airfields.
"It’s always exciting when we get to see these unique aircraft, especially up close,” Airport Director Roy Sieger said in the news release. “It’s not something you get to see every day."
The Flagler Executive Airport hosts craft such as the Navy Airship and the Goodyear Blimp more often because it has enough space to let them rotate 360 degrees, according to the release.
The Florida Flag Football League held its state championship in Palm Coast for the third year in a row June 11-12.
The Flagler County Tourist Development Council and the city of Palm Coast Parks and Recreation department have worked together all three years to bring the free event to Palm Coast's Indian Trails Sports Complex, according to a Flagler County news release.
“It’s gratifying to see these events and these competitors return year after year,” Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches Executive Director Matt Dunn said in the news release. “It’s a real indicator that we’re providing a memorable visitor experience."
The athletes and their fans attended from as far away as North Carolina, and from southern and western Florida, according to the news release. Hotel occupancy has increased 9% over the past two years, according to the release, and bed tax collections from hotels have increased 22% in the same two-year period.
For the seventh year in a row, the Flagler County government won praise for its annual budget presentation.
The Government Finance Officers Association awarded the county its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award at a Board of County Commissioners meeting June 6.
The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church has donated 28 $30 grocery store gift cards for distribution to veterans who need assistance.
The cards will be given out by Flagler County Veterans Services Officer Sal Rutigliano and Assistant Veterans Services Officer Flores Febles to veterans who have sought services at the county Veterans Services Office and are in dire need, according to a Flagler County news release.
Veterans who need help filing claims for service-related disability compensation or applying for non-service-related pension can call the Veterans Services Office at 386-313-4014 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
