Houston commits to WMU
After his recent trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where three-star recruit Denzel Houston met with and worked out for Western Michigan University coaches, he wasted no time giving his verbal commitment to the Broncos.
“I had a really good time at the school,” he said, “and, when I went to the camp, I learned so many things in one day. I had good vibes with the players, and the coaching staff was very elite.” Houston had other offers from Louisville, McNeese State, South Florida, Southern Illinois and Utah State.
Houston says the Broncos recruited him as a wide receiver, so he will most likely switch positions—which he’s willing to do—but, according to reports from his day in Kalamazoo, he has no problems making an impact catching instead of throwing the ball.
According to Eric Rutter of Todaysu.com, “Outside of commit Chris Bell, no wide receiver had as good of a day as Houston. He has quick feet and runs polished routes, so much so that he dominated the majority of his 1-on-1 reps from the day. He exhibits a quick breakdown at the top of his route, and the Florida recruit blew past numerous defensive backs for long scores.”
In the last two seasons, Houston has led Mainland’s offense to gaudy numbers, tallying over 100 touchdowns and nearly 1,000 points. He hopes he will be able to create similar magic as a Bronco—though not at the quarterback position.
Houston expects to get receiver reps this upcoming season with Mainland before heading to the next level.
