With the help of Boy Scout Troop 404, Trevor Richardson, an honor roll student and rising sophomore at Seabreeze High School, completed the construction of an informational kiosk at Ormond Beach Environmental Discovery Center April 16, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout —the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America.
Trevor began his scouting career in fourth grade and has been with Troop 404 since 2012.
Since the rank of Eagle Scout was introduced in 1911, it has been earned by more than 2 million young men, or less than five percent of all eligible scouts, and is a lifelong title: “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.” Requirements include earning merit badges and demonstrating scout spirit, service and leadership. Eagle Scout projects include an extensive service project that the scout plans, organizes, leads and manages.
Richardson led every aspect of this project including maintaining constant communication with the City, designing the project, presenting it to his troop leaders for approval, seeking approval from the City, purchasing the materials, scheduling the work, directing his troop to their respective roles, and successfully completing the project ahead of schedule. The kiosk was well-constructed and was fitted with a metal roof to match the look of the Environmental Discovery Center.
On June 14, Richardson was personally thanked by fellow Eagle Scout Mayor Ed Kelley (1957) at the information kiosk for his generous contribution to the Environmental Discovery Center.
