On June 6, Florida Hospital Flagler staff donated $2,500 worth of items, filling 12 storage boxes, to the Flagler Education Foundation's S.T.U.F.F. the Bus. Staff also donated more than $250 in cash.
This bus distributes everything from school supplies, toiletries, and essential clothing items, to local children in need. Throughout the year, teachers, counselors and school nurses reach out to the Flagler County Education Foundation when they identify students in need.
“We’ve supported the STUFF Bus for the past five years, but this year was incredibly moving as this was the largest collection made by our employees,” said Edilson Goncalves, Florida Hospital Flagler chaplain. “Our employees have tremendous, giving hearts and they truly love caring for our neighbors in need.”
According to the Flagler County Education Foundation, at least 6,300 students in Flagler Countyare in need of support. Approximately 50 to 70 percent of Flagler County students are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program and an increased number of families are homeless.
To commemorate Kirk Douglas' 100th birthday, the Hadassah Book Club discussed the 10 books the actor has written, and used the occasion to also celebrate member Charlotte Venetiener's 90th birthday. Next month the group will discuss The Faith Club, a nonfiction account of three women of different faiths getting together.
Daniel Brigham, O.D., a native of Palm Coast, was among 129 students who were recently awarded the Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Brigham graduated summa cum laude and Beta Sigma Kappa, a designation for students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. He was selected to Who’s Who for academic achievement, community service, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success; and he received the Outstanding Clinician Award for overall exemplary clinical performance.
Brigham is the son of David and Pamela Brigham, the grandson of George and Sari Brigham of Auburndale, an a graduate of Matanzas High School and the University of Florida.
