Burglar ignores cash and electronics, steals Mountain Dew
5:52 p.m. First block of Sea Beacon Trail. Vehicle burglary: Someone rummaged through a local family's unlocked cars overnight, according to a Sheriff's Office report. At first, the woman who reported the incident to the Sheriff's Office didn't know what the thief could have been looking for: She'd left money and a GPS unit in the cars, but the thief hadn't touched them. Then she realized there were only two things missing: two 16-ounce cans of Mountain Dew, which the thief had removed from a six-pack in the back seat. A deputy checked with neighbors, but none saw the Mountain Dew thief.
Thief steals Kindle, registers it on Amazon
10:15 p.m. First block of Utica Path. Larceny: A 35-year-old woman contacted Amazon about charges to her account, and mentioned to the Amazon representative on the phone that her Amazon Kindle tablet had been lost a while ago. She asked if there was any activity on it. There was, the representative said: Someone had deregistered the tablet from the woman's account and then re-registered it to someone else's account in early May. The woman told a deputy the tablet was worth about $479, according to a Sheriff's Office report. A deputy listed the tablet's serial number as stolen in a crime database.
