Members of the Daytona Beach Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association played in the North Florida and Southeast District semi-finals June 19 at Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, and several will advance to the national tournament.

They played in a variety of weather conditions in the one-day event, according to Connie Karby, communications director.

“It rained for a few holes, then the wind picked up and then it got hot,” she said. “It was a good test.”

There were 59 players at the tournament, including 14 from the Daytona Beach chapter.

The first place finishers will attend the two-day national championship in Virginia in October. They include the Scramble Team along with Connie Karby, of Ormond Beach, and Victoria Goitz, of Orlando. The scramble team members are Jeanie Schreiber, Palm Coast, Katy Nelson, Ormond Beach, Melody Kimmel, Palm Coast and Jackie Poole, Palm Coast,

Karby said they can’t wait to go to the national championship, which will be a two-day event.

“We’re a very close chapter,” she said.

The club was started in Ormond Beach 10 years ago. They play at Halifax Plantation and Riverbend, in Ormond Beach, and other courses. The chapter covers the area from Palm Coast to Edgewater.

For more information on the chapter, visit ewgadaytonabeach.com. Members have a wide range of golf skills and handicaps, and they welcome new members.
