Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast was named as one of the Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance for the hospitals’ ongoing commitment to responsible lung cancer screening.
“We are proud and honored to be working with Florida Hospital as a Lung Cancer Alliance Screening Center of Excellence. Their commitment to practice responsible lung cancer screening will lead to advancements in research and many lives saved. They are an example to follow,” says LCA President and CEO, Laurie Fenton Ambrose, via press release.
Only 27 other hospitals in the entire state of Florida have earned this status and these Florida Hospitals are the first Adventist Health System hospitals to receive this designation.
Low dose CT screening for lung cancer carried out safely, efficiently and equitably saves tens of thousands of lives a year.
Florida Hospital Flagler is committed to providing clear information based on current evidence on who is a candidate for lung cancer screening.

Low dose CT screening has shown to be the only proven method to detect lung cancer at an early and treatable stage. We are thrilled to be part of this elite group, setting an example for responsible screening practices across the country,” said Imelda Unto, Florida Hospital East Florida Region cancer services administrator.
Coast Title is pleased to announce that they have accepted a Star Performer Award from Fidelity National Title Group for 2015. The award encompasses the Northeast Florida area.
Troy Winn, a Marketing and Agency Representative for Fidelity National Title Group, presented owner of Coast Title Sandra McDermott and staff the award at a luncheon in Palm Coast on June 25.
“This is the fifth time we’ve received this prestigious award and we feel so blessed,” said McDermott, via press release. “We have an incredibly talented team and I am positive we would be unable reach this level of success without them – I am very proud.”
City of Palm Coast “Water Bouoys” won the Top Ops National Championship of the American Water Works Association, for the sixth time since 2006.
The Palm Coast Utility Department’s team of Fred Greiner, Tom Martens and Peter Roussell defeated 18 teams from across the United States and Canada to earn the national championship at the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago. The team will be recognized by the Palm Coast City Council on July 19.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the Water Buoys!” said team coach Jim Hogan, Palm Coast’s Utility Systems Manager of Water of Operations, via press release. “We came in second place last year and won the state competition this spring. They changed the format this year, but our team displayed a single-minded determination to reach its goal of regaining the national championship. They exemplify our entire Utility Department’s efforts to provide excellence in water and wastewater services to the City of Palm Coast.”
Top Ops is done brain-bowl style, with water treatment teams answering questions in a fast-paced Q&A contest. The annual contest recognizes and promotes excellence in all aspects of water operations, giving operators the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and talents.
“Drowning is one of the leading causes of deaths in infants from the ages of one to four,” said Dr. Kristin McCabe of Florida Hospital Flagler, via press release. “Because Flagler County is surrounded by water, teaching children the importance of water safety is critical.”
McCabe worked with Flagler County Fire Rescue volunteer Jim Caggiano to develop a water safety education event on April 30 at the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club. In addition to highlighting the importance of water safety, the event included activities such as home safety checklists and CPR for families.
The 2016 WaterSafe award was presented to McCabe at a meeting on June 4 at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center for her leadership in coordinating this community education event.
