The Washington Post has been ranking high schools since 1998, as part of the paper’s “Challenge Index.” In the latest list of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools,” Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas high schools made the list.

Data from approximately 22,000 public high schools throughout the country were examined and 2,440 made the list. The Challenge Index takes the total number of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Cambridge tests given to students, and then divides that total by the number of seniors who graduated.

Using that criteria, Flagler Palm Coast High School ranked 1,864, and Matanzas High School ranked 1,999.
