A 60-year-old Palm Coast man threatened his son, then hit him over the head with a handgun and fired a shot toward him through a door — all in an argument about the son's traffic ticket, according to a Flagler County Sheriff's Office report.

The incident happened at about 11:40 p.m. Feb. 27 at the father's house on Kathleen Trail.

The victim, 33-year-old Jason Questell, had gotten a traffic citation. His father, Stanley Anthony Questell, was arguing with him about it at the entryway of the home.

Stanley Questell had been drinking, according to the report, and he got in his son's face with a lit cigarette in his mouth — so close it looked like he might've burned the younger man, who smacked the cigarette from his father's mouth, according to the report.

Then, Jason Questell told deputies, Stanley Questell said, "wait right here, I’m gonna smoke your (profanity).” The father went inside the house and grabbed his 1911-style .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and struck Jason Questell over the head with it, Jason Questell said.

Jason Questell and his mother went inside and locked Stanley Questell outside the house, and Stanley Questell fired a shot toward them through the door, they told deputies. They called 911.

A 911 dispatcher "heard a male in the background say, 'I’ll (profanity)ing smoke you guys right now,'" according to the report.

The Sheriff's Office sent out a SWAT team.

After the SWAT team "secured" him, Stanley Questell told deputies that "(his son) stated he was going to kick his butt," according to the report, and that Stanley Questell got the gun to protect himself and that "he fired one round into the top right corner of the front door as a warning shot."

Deputies confiscated the gun, which Stanley Questell had put in a glove compartment, the took a .45 caliber shell casing they found outside the front door as evidence.

They charged Stanley Questell with one count of aggravated assault/domestic violence, one count of aggravated battery/domestic violence, and one count of possession or use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or chemicals.
