Feb. 29

Lego my merchandise

12:00 p.m. — 1500 Block of West Granada Boulevard  

Retail Theft. The store employee said the suspect took 10 Lego boxes worth $932.62.

He was spotted in the store by a witness who works at a store in another town. He recognized the suspect as someone who used to come in to his store once or twice a week and steal televisions. The witness alerted the employee that he saw the suspect in the store, and when they checked the surveillance tape, they saw him stealing the Legos.

The suspect had left, but after determining his identity, the officer issued a theft charge.

 

Feb. 29

Expensive accessories

4:49.m. — 300 Block of West Granada Boulevard

Theft. The victim said she left her purse in the restaurant. When she returned, the manager ran the surveillance tape which showed some people taking it

She lost a Louis Vuitton purse valued at $3,400; a Louis Vuitton wallet, $1,200; and Louis Vuitton keychain, $900. The purse had $1 in cash.

 

March 2

Bikes versus police car

11:14 p.m. — 1400 Block of Hand Avenue

Resisting Without Violence; Loitering or Prowling. An officer observed two bicyclists exiting the rear of an office building when all of businesses were closed. They had no lights on their bikes.

The turned down Hand Avenue, and the officer turned on his emergency lights. The suspects kept going, turning into a church parking lot. As the officer followed, they started peddling faster, ignoring him.

The officer turned on his siren and they kept peddling.

After the officer issued warnings over his PA system and they finally stopped after his third one. One suspect went a little farther but came back. 

The suspects said they didn’t stop because they didn’t want to get tickets for not having lights. The suspects said they had arranged to meet at the office building. They did not dispel the officer’s suspicions and were charged with prowling.

 

March 3

Phony IRS “agent”

7:09 p.m. — First Block of New Britain Avenue

Fraud. The victim said she got a call from someone claiming to be an IRS agent. He told her she made a mistake on her 2015 taxes. He said he had a warrant for her arrest and if she didn’t pay $3,589.60, she would be arrested.

He told her to send the cash in two different sums by MoneyGram. She complied, and sent amounts of $2,450 and $1,139.60.
