When Bill Fletcher first opened Fletcher's Bar in 2007, he wanted people walking in to feel like they were entering a whole other world. With Irish music in the background, authentic decorations filling the room and an entire staff in kilts, I think it's safe to say, he succeeded.
The whole idea was started purely out of boredom — with the local night life that is.
"Irish bars are just not stressful bars," he said. "They're laid back and not caught up in the competition with other night clubs. And the people are good people. Every Irish pub I've been too has an eclectic group of patrons."
Originally named Fletcher's Cigar Bar, Fletcher changed the name to Orange Kilt. He recently went back to just Fletcher's Irish Pub after some people thought he didn't own the bar anymore. With that issue cleared up, he and his staff are getting ready to host one of their biggest St. Patrick's Day parties they've ever had.
"It's just a feel good party," he said. "Everyone likes to be Irish one day out of the year. It's just a time to celebrate, and it's a fun holiday outside of the drunken debauchery."
The bar will host celtic punk band "Born Again Heathens," and serve authentic Irish food. Fletcher's favorite, corn beef cabbage, was always made by his grandmother growing up. Now he and his wife, Jeanine Fletcher, — who both grew up with Irish traditions — have taken over the tradition.
"We try to be as authentic as we can," he said. "Irish people are just awesome."
The bar is located at 1220 Hand Ave., Ormond Beach.
