An Ormond Beach man used a story that he was a photographer in the porn industry to defraud a Daytona Beach motel, according to Daytona Beach police. While at the motel, he also obtained meals from Honey Baked Hams with worthless checks, they said.
Danny Lee Sullivan, 31, who police say resides at 1929 Nelson Ave., Ormond Beach, was arrested May 4 and taken to Volusia County Jail with charges including obtaining property with a worthless check and organized scheme to defraud. He was denied bail because the charges violated his probation.
The suspect checked into the Hilton Garden Inn, 189 Midway Ave., on Feb. 29 and told the general manager that he was a porn film photographer. He said he would need extra rooms for his employees and opened a direct billing for Danny’s Data LLC, with the same Ormond Beach address.
He was approved for a line of credit after providing two Ormond Beach motels as references, the Days Inn and Best Western, both located on South Atlantic Avenue.
The suspect continually told the manager that he would pay off the debt. On April 18, he wrote a check for $2,311, which had the Ormond Beach address. The motel deposited the check, but it was returned because the account was closed.
The suspect left the motel April 17 with an unpaid bill for $36,847.82, which included room service, extra rooms and charges to the motel restaurant.
The charging affidavit also describes how Sullivan allegedly defrauded Honey Baked Hams, 345 Bill France Blvd.
Sullivan ordered a meal by telephone on Feb. 8 for delivery to the motel and paid the $123.83 bill with a check, the police report states.
The next day, he called Honey Baked Hams again and requested to create a house account.
While the first check was being processed by the bank, Sullivan made two more orders which were delivered to the motel. On Feb. 18, the restaurant received the check back from the bank with a notice that it was not valid.
On Feb. 21, the suspect placed an order online with Honey Baked Ham for $255.64 and said he would pick it up. The manager realized it was Sullivan, so called him and told him he needed to pay off his debt with a credit card. Sullivan said he would come and pay, but never did, according to the report. He has an outstanding balance of $692.38 at Honey Baked Ham.
He was taken into custody at the Probation and Parole office, 1023 Mason Ave., Daytona Beach, and transported to jail without incident, the arrest report states.
