First founded in 1891, the Ormond Beach Woman's Club was originally called the Ormond Village Improvement Association. Its members did include men —until they kicked them out not even a year later.
In 125 years, the club has maintained its mission to "promote neatness and order in the village," through fundraisers that support organizations like the Great Kids Explorer Club and Halifax Urban Ministries.
At their anniversary party May 13, President Beverly Ferrell honored a few select members for their contributions, though all 20 of them put in a great deal of effort.
"All of you are special," she said at the podium, "and that's about the most I can say without crying."
Though club membership has declined over the past few years due to their older demographic, Ferrell and her gang don't plan on stopping any time soon.
"It's gone on for so long," she said. "We just feel an obligation that it needs to go on as long as it possibly can."
