A 26-year-old Spring Hill, Florida woman was killed in an early-morning motorcycle crash in southern Flagler County May 14 as she returned from a concert with her boyfriend.

Brittany Lee Pitt was seated behind Allen David Adams — 28 and also a Spring Hill resident — on Adams' 2014 Harley Davidson. The two had gone to a The Devil Makes Three concert in Jacksonville the night of May 13. She'd recently bought him new handlebars for the Harley for his birthday, and Adams, on Facebook, called them "the best and most practical birfday (sic) present ever."

The couple were heading south on Interstate 95 at about 12:40 a.m. when the crash happened, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Adams had been drinking, according to the report. As Adams approached the exit at Old Dixie Highway, a 2012 Dodge Journey driven by 31-year-old Hastings, Florida resident Kenneth William Tonak III was heading west on Old Dixie Highway.

Adams "failed to yield to oncoming traffic" and entered the Dodge's lane, according to the report. Pitt fell from the motorcycle and landed in front of the Dodge, which ran over her.

An ambulance took Pitt to Florida Hospital Flagler, where she died. Adams' injuries were minor. Neither had been wearing a helmet. Tonak and the four passengers in his Dodge were not injured.

Pitt had a young son, and Adams had recently posted on Facebook about the experience of helping raise the boy, writing, "Having Britttany and her son in her life has set me in the right direction. I get such a kick out of seeing him smile over some dumb thing I do or say. Or him telling me about what kinda bike he wants when he grows up. Seeing him play with the neighborhood kids."

The crash investigation was ongoing at the time the FHP released its initial report.
