Two Ormond Beach residents have been recognized for their contributions to the community by the Volusia League of Cities. Vic Liviccori was named 2016 Citizen of the Year, and Joe Mannarino was named Employee of the Year for Economic Enrichment.

Liviccori is president of The Casements Guild, and Mannarino is economic development director for the city.

Winners were nominated by their cities and then chosen by the VLOC Board of Directors, according to Marilyn Crotty, executive director.

“Since 2005 the Volusia League of Cities has presented awards to outstanding individuals who have made their communities, and, respectively, Volusia County a better place to live,” she wrote in letter.

The awards will be presented on May 26 at the annual Distinguished Service Awards Banquet at the Sanborn Center in DeLand.

This is the second year in a row that Mannarino won over the other economic development managers in the county. Awards were also presented to city employees in administration, planning, parks and recreation, public safety and public works.

Mannarino was nominated by City Commissioner Rick Boehm. Accomplishments listed by Boehm included helping to bring Super Petrel USA, an aircraft distributor, and SKYO Industries, a tool manufacturer, to the city. Mannarino also played a role in DuvaSawko relocating to the city and the increase in manufacturing at Energizer.

“Joe works closely with Ormond Beach businesses on retention and expansion projects, and recruitment of out-of-state businesses,” the nomination states. “Joe’s commitment and dedication to the community is truly exceptional, and it is with great pride we nominate him as Employee of the Year.”

Vic Liviccori was one of five people in Volusia County to be named Citizen of the Year.

In the nomination paper, Robert Carolin, director of Leisure Services, said, “Vic Liviccori has greatly enriched the community; his leadership, initiative, and dedication to The Casements and the city of Ormond Beach has led to major cultural improvements.”

Liviccori helped plan The Casements centennial celebration, including adding a gazebo that now stands on the north lawn. Carolin also wrote that  Liviccori works tirelessly to educate the public about The Casements. Liviccori and his wife, Kathie, created a 100-year timeline of historic highlights of the historic house.

“From renovations and historical tours to free public events and successful fundraisers, Vic Liviccori has been a constant factor in The Casements’ recent achievements,” Carolin wrote.

Other VLOC awards included city manager of the year, Jane Shang, Deltona; elected official of the year, and Charles Paiva, DeLand City Commission. The Mayor Blaine O’Neal Award of Excellence went to Pam Woods, Daytona Beach City Commission.
