Ormond Beach resident Caroline Taft joined the army six years ago in the spirit of adventure. She attended West Point United States Military Academy and rose the ranks to captain. Still from a young age, Taft had always been "culinarily curious" and eventually channeled that energy into her blog The Brazen Gourmand which documents her taste-based travels and cooking adventures.
"I travel to eat," she laughed. "I really think the best way to learn about a culture is to eat their food."
Some of the weirdest foods she's tried included a deep-fried snake and bushmeat — which is basically the meat of whatever roadkill died that day.
"The bushmeat was better than the snake," she said "That tasted like a garden hose."
