Russ Royce, a member of the Community Garden committee, was honored by the city May 17 when Mayor Ed Kelley read a proclamation proclaiming the day as a day to honor him for his contributions to the garden. Royce, a master gardener, was involved with the planning, research and design of the garden, and now helps almost every gardener with their vegetables. He also performs maintenance, such as weeding the compost bin. “He is helping to make a better quality of life for the community,” the proclamation said.

Rita Press, who has a garden there, said while some people have pictures of their grandchildren in their phone, she has pictures of her radishes and broccoli. She gave credit to Royce.

“He helped make my vegetable garden fantastic,” she said at the commission meeting.
