Church full of family, friends, love for Robert Harris' funeral

Robert Harris' memorial revealed the 18 year old to be a talented writer loved by so many in his community.

Robert Harris never had a bad day. 

According to his friends and family, the 18-year-old Seabreeze High School junior always had an infectious smile on his face and a way of making everybody feel at home. So much so, that the

worship center at Tomoka Christian Church —which typically seats about 800 people —was completely filled. 

"My favorite memories of him weren't outrageous," said Sam Boatner, a friend of Harris' who found him after a train hit and killed him May 15. "Just sitting in his room, talking and listening to music. He gave me the gift of friendship, and the memories we have together are worth more than a lifetime." 

Known as the kid who brought everyone together, Robert Harris' legacy of human connection lived on through his friends and families stories during the memorial May 20 and continuing into the weekend for a memorial paddle out at Granada Beach Approach.

Words of wisdom from Robert Harris

Robert Harris' mother, Patricia Best, read a poem written by her son at his funeral. The end is as follows: 

"You have to be ready to adapt to situations, and fight through other ones.

Because life is not a flowing stream, it's an oncoming wave."
