A 30-year-old Palm Coast resident was in his kitchen making Kool-Aid for his kids May 20 when a man kicked in his garage door. Deputies used a police dog to search for the would-be burglar, but couldn't find him.
The victim, a resident of Reidel Lane, said the break-in happened at about 10:48 a.m. He was standing at his sink. The outer garage door was open, but the inner one leading into the house was locked.
The man heard a loud bang at the inner garage door, and then saw the door swing open and a masked man step into the house.
The burglar fled, and the man chased him, but couldn't catch up to him and last saw him cutting through a neighbor's back yard.
The interior door had been unlocked just minutes before, when the victim's wife and her sister briefly stopped at the house before leaving again, he told deputies.
Deputies set up a perimeter and searched the area with a police dog, but didn't find the would-be burglar.
