Flagler County Emergency Management will make a presentation at the inaugural “Hurricane Preparedness Breakfast” from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 55 Town Center Blvd. Palm Coast.
“We will discuss how we can better prepare as a community, ways you can volunteer and you will be able to hear about preparedness from a statewide and local perspective,” said Suzy Gamblain, executive director of Flagler Volunteer Services.
In addition to the presentation made by Emergency Management, representatives from Volunteer Florida and Flagler Volunteer Services will speak. There will be a panel discussion that includes the American Red Cross, Flagler County Medical Reserve Corps, the Church of Latter Day Saints, Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and Ham Radio.
Cost is $15, and includes breakfast, and a disaster preparedness supply bag. For reservations 597-2950, www.flaglervolunteer.org.
Step In Florida is looking for volunteers to host Spanish Exchange Students for 27 days in July. Host families provide a bed, meals and transportation two days a week.
All students speak English and come with their own spending money and medical insurance. Students attend 1 and 1/2 field trips a week and host family members are welcome to come along at group discounted pricing.
This is a great program for families of younger children, especially 11, 12, and 13 year olds who are out of school, and not eligible for daycare, to start out the summer with an older, responsible teenager, in the home..
It is not necessary to have children to host. Students arrive on July 4th and leave on July 30th.
