Typically, The Children's Workshop has about 20 kids on their waitlist.
"We hate having to turn children away because we didn't have space," said Illiana Steele, voluntary pre-kindergarten teacher and assistant director. "They really wanted to come here."
Currently, the preschool can only house 75 kids between the ages of two to kindergarten. But thanks to $500,000 extension — $50,000 of which was matched by a Ormond Mainstreet grant — the school will be open to 130 kids total.
Owners Brian and Kim Adair had been planning the extension for five years in order of offer their school's traditional teaching style to more children in the community.
"We've been here for over 30 years," she said. "We're a little more old school, and we've always had the reputation of producing kids that were ready for elementary school."
